Terry A. Bartlett is recognized as the premier landlord-tenant attorney in Santa Barbara County. Her practice includes real estate law; leases; rent control issues; property management law; self-storage facilities; mobile home parks; land use and zoning law; business and administrative law.
Terry, a Santa Barbara native, began practicing law in 1979 at a local firm founded by Judge James Patillo, then spent several years as a successful sole practitioner before joining Reetz, Fox & Bartlett LLP in 1988. She is known for extraordinary client services, successful advocacy, and ability to get clients’ problems resolved favorably.
Terry is a recipient of the prestigious Oliver Award from the Santa Barbara Association of Realtors for protection of property rights, and the Santa Barbara Rental Property Association’s George Stevens Memorial Award. She served on the Presiding Judge’s South Coast Advisory Committee to the Superior Court in 1990, and was a Superior Court Settlement Master between 2002 and 2016.
She has been an instructor in real estate law at Santa Barbara City College, and has taught landlord-tenant law for the Santa Barbara Rental Property Association and for select private corporations. Terry is a former panel attorney for the California Association of Realtors. She is a past member of the Government Relations Committee of the Santa Barbara Association of Realtors and the Bank of Montecito Advisory Board.
Terry is currently an officer of the nonprofit Santa Barbara Housing Council and a trustee of the Bossé Foundation. She is currently active with the Los Padres Council of the Boy Scouts of America and a past director of Santa Barbara Associates, Santa Barbara Breast Cancer Institute, Page Youth Center, Life Chronicles, the Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce, and the Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce.
She graduated from the University of California Davis and the University of Pacific McGeorge School of Law. She is the daughter of Stanley U. Bartlett, a founding partner of the area’s largest CPA firm.
